UVU CET Web Design Internship

Introduction

In December 2024, I began my internship as a Web and Graphic Designer with the UVU College of Engineering and Technology (CET) Marketing Team. This internship has provided hands-on experience in website redesign, digital media creation, and event support. My primary focus has been redesigning outdated UVU department web pages using Figma, adhering to the CET Design System created by Al Baker. This system ensures consistency with UVU's branding while streamlining the design process. Additionally, I contribute to social media content, digital signage, and event support for the CET community.

What Happened: My Key Projects and Contributions

Website Redesign Projects

Using Figma, I redesigned several subpages across different UVU departments:

  • UVU Culinary Arts Subpages

  • UVU Aviation Subpages

  • UVU Construction Technologies Subpages

  • UVU Architecture Subpages

  • UVU Computer Science Subpages

  • UVU Digital Media Subpages

In each project, I utilized Figma's Auto Layout, Components, and the UVU Branding to maintain structure and ensure responsiveness across devices. By cross-referencing UVU’s official branding guide, I ensured a cohesive user experience.

Digital Media and Social Media Support

In addition to web design, I supported CET’s marketing efforts through:

  • Social Media: Creating promotional content for UVU CET events using Canva while maintaining brand consistency.

  • Digital Signage: Designing campus displays to promote programs, events, and initiatives.

  • Event Support: Assisting with design and marketing materials for UVU CET-hosted events & UVU CET EXPO 2025..

These tasks helped me refine my graphic design skills while reinforcing UVU’s brand identity across platforms.

Conclusion: What I Learned

This internship has expanded my technical skills in web design, user experience (UX), and digital marketing. Working with the CET Design System in Figma taught me the importance of consistency, efficiency, and accessibility in website development. I also strengthened my project management and collaborative skills while working alongside the CET team.

Looking ahead, I’m excited to continue applying these skills to future projects, whether for UVU or other professional endeavors. This experience has not only enhanced my design capabilities but also deepened my understanding of creating user-centered digital experiences.
